Partly Facetious: that irrefutable argument again
"Ah, so the reunion is imminent."
"Whose?"
"BB and AZ's?"
"Indeed. That means a deal is still possible. Maybe it's happened already and we don't know about it."
"You are right. Musharraf does believe in signed deals - you have only to recall reports about his deal with Abbaji as proof positive of that. But of course we, the public, have no way of knowing for sure."
"Hamza Sharif is also no longer in the exit control list."
"I am not quite sure if a deal has been made with the two sides. Did you hear of the resignation of Dr Qadri of the Awami Tehrik in protest against the passage of what is now being termed as the Uniform Bill?"
"He is the first casualty."
"Maybe the only one is my fear and Musharraf's hope I would imagine."
"You think no one else will resign?"
"You know in our country if an opposition member resigns on what is termed as principles..."
"Itself something that few politicians understand."
"Indeed. And in such a case the government is quick to accept the resignation, as happened in Qadri's case, and it then strives harder to get someone more malleable elected. After all the government does have the machinery under control."
"Did you here what happened in the Ukraine?"
"That has happened in our country too. If you remember correctly Ayub couldn't stay on or Yahya."
"Right but then Zia kept on ruling and I think Musharraf is drawing an inspiration from Zia rather than Ayub, I mean basing it purely on how he has manipulated the constitution."
"Indeed. We all have our role models."
"To be honest Musharraf may not be that bad. I mean I would rather have Musharraf, in spite of his blind support for all things Bush and his stance on the new and improved democracy, than the Poodle who looks rather ridiculous in his support."
"There is a limit to it all."
"Indeed. But anyway Musharraf will address the nation to take us into confidence as to why he is not taking off his uniform."
"I know why already, as we all do. But the question is if he will come out with the truth."
"That is not in the national interest."
"Ah yes. That irrefutable argument again."
